Introduction
Ropes have been used over decades for several purposes for example, making traps, tents, used for towing and many others. It is simply made up of several strands that are tied together to offer great strength to support great weight. They are made stronger and thicker as their objectives do not resemble the strings and the cords functions.
In the past, people used to make naturally from the gifts of nature; barks of trees, sisal and even leafs and roots of trees. As time went by, people realized on new ways to make the ropes stronger to enhance efficiency and functionality. These were the synthetic ropes that are used together with the natural one to meet their functions and objectives.
In the text we are going to look on the most used natural and synthetic ropes.
The popular types of natural and synthetic ropes
Manila Rope
It is a natural rope that is completely made of hemp fibers, they are soft and cheap. It is directly made from plants and is commonly used in decoration of fences and purposes on landscaping. They have an attractive appearance thus suitable for their purpose. However, they are prone to destruction of direct sunlight and water therefore it is recommended to be kept away from direct sunlight and water.
Polypropylene Rope
This is a type of synthetic rope. It is tough and offers support over strong weights. They are mostly used for safety in the lakes and swimming pools. This is the main reason why they are made of different colors to make them visible over a distance. They can withstand damage of water but are friction prone. They are lightweight, dielectric and cheap.
Pro Manila Rope
Unlike the manila rope, the pro manila rope is synthetic. It is quite smoother and feels nautical than the predecessors. Even though they are classic than the manila ropes, they have similar demerits as the manila ropes such as prone to water and damp places. However, they rarely decompose on their own.
Jute Rope
These are natural ropes made from fibers. They are mainly used for decoration of knots due to the fact that they have a natural sheen. They are often soft and quite similar to the hemp ropes. They are slippery therefore are prone to friction. Another problem is that the jute rope shrinks over time.
Nylon Rope
It is a synthetic rope used for heavy objects pulling. They have a heavyweight which makes it possible for them to lift and pull the heavy objects. They can be found in places where there are pulley systems. Nonetheless, it has a smooth surface but can be disadvantageous as water might lead to snapping during working.
Cotton Rope
This is the type of natural rope that is mostly found in kids’ toys. They are mainly used for this purpose since they can easily decompose and are environment friendly. They are soft and lightweight but unfortunately can be damaged and spoiled by water and mold action.
